VILLA ESPERANZA
Current project: Bakery, Pharmacy and Children's Cafeteria
Network Representative: Julia Briselba
History
Villa Esperanza is one of the least privileged, but best organized communities in Esteli. The Villa Esperanza Neighborhood Association formed to implement a nutrition and education project. The Association was created by the neighborhood committee, a leadership board that was already well organized to address problems in the community. The level of community organization in Villa Esperanza led local organizations to bring in nutrition and education programs. The initial programs offered workshops and practical experiences to members of the community - mostly single mothers - focusing on nutrition, health and gender equity.

Activities
The Movement now offers classes to women in marketable skills so that they can earn income to support their families. The Movement offers low-cost classes in cosmetology, sewing, cooking, and baking.

Future projects
The people of Villa Esperanza are always looking to build on their successes, improve their community, and reach out to neighboring communities.
